stims: day 1

We had an early start this morning! We left the house at 7:30 for my 9:00 baseline appointment. I got my blood drawn (I'm sure I'll be a pro at it after the next few weeks) and an ultrasound done. After that my nurse taught us how to do the shots. It didn't seem too hard and the needles are actually pretty small!

When it came time for my shots tonight, I was so ready. Or was I... I was smiling yet about to cry! So many mixed emotions! Larry was ready to give the shots though. I think he enjoyed it haha. Larry practiced acting like he was going to administer the shot and my stomach started shivering! It was so funny. So as he was about to stick me with the shot for real, I was almost in tears. Then he stuck me and... I giggled!! It hurt so little that it was funny to me I guess! The second shot was the menopur, and it didn't hurt either, but it did burn a little. Seems normal to burn though since it was mixed with saline.

I'm so happy our first night went smoothly! So smoothly that I'm thinking Larry must have went into the wrong field because he's already to give me more shots! :P

the flu times two

Welp, Larry and I both have the flu.   Just what we needed right before I start stims.  Tuesday he called in to work, and then ended up going to urgent care with a 103 fever when they told him he had the flu.  I had an itchy throat all day, but didn't think anything of it.  As soon as I got home, I lysoled the entire house and stayed in a separate room from Larry all evening.  I washed our sheets and he stayed in the guest bedroom for the night.  Which by the way was so weird!  When I woke up Wednesday morning, my throat was killing me and I was coughing.  Both Larry and my mom suggested I go to urgent care to get tested for the flu also.  I went and they didn't even test me, just said that they were going to prescribe me Tamiflu since I was in the same house as someone with the flu.  Since I start stims tomorrow, I was really worried that me being on Tamiflu would push back everything.  I called my doc's office and the nurse said that as long as I wasn't running fever on Thursday, then we could still start stims on Friday.

Well all day Wednesday I had a fever. I was SO worried I'd still have one Thursday.  Before I went to bed Larry told me that I need to think I'm getting better, because stressing about it will just make me worse.  Then, my mom called and told me the same thing.  I had a horrible night of sleep.  I woke up every hour and a half.  Every other time I was either sweating and hot as can be or freezing cold with chills.  It was awful.  Luckily when I woke up I didn't feel quite as bad.  I immediately took all my medicines and rested on the couch.  I took my temperature and it was a low grade fever.  I told myself I WILL get this fever down today.  I kept resting and drinking a lot of water and in a couple of hours I was feeling so much better. I took my temp again and guess what no fever!  I told Larry the good news, but told him I'd wait a couple hours and check it again before calling my doctor's office.  So I waited 2 hours, checked again and still no fever!  So stims are still on tomorrow!!

Larry is still feeling bad so please pray for a quick recovery for him.  He's also got a minor sinus surgery next week, so that will help a lot.

today is a good day

Not only is it Friday, but it is just one week until I start stims (injection meds)!  Also, the meds are officially ordered and will arrive at our door step on Wednesday! Great news about those too. We were told that IVF meds would cost around $3000-$4000 and insurance doesn't always cover it. Well when I ordered my meds today I found out that our insurance approved all of the meds and the most we'll pay for the total of the co-pays is $500!! What a blessing! I've started a spreadsheet on our IVF out of pocket costs, so we shall see what the total cost of our baby(ies) is. We are up to right over $3000 (this includes Larry's surgery). Larry and I both agree that we'd pay all the money in the world and do whatever it takes to become parents... we're ready for this!

Please keep us in your prayers over the next few weeks! :)

started BCP and our IVF calendar

I think it's about time to write an update! On December 5th I started my period. Right away, I called my RE's (Reproductive Endocrinologist) office to schedule my blood work. That Monday,  I went in to my appointment, got my blood drawn (and a lot of it I might add!), gave a urine sample, and the most exciting part- wrote up our IVF calendar with the nurse! It was finally feeling real. We officially, unofficially have an egg retrieval and a embryo transfer date! I say unofficially because it all just depends on my ovaries and if they are reacting on cue to the meds.

So here's how the schedule goes...

  • December 8th- Started birth control pills. I will be on BCP until January 27th.
  • Jan 5th- USI/Mock transfer
  • Jan 7th- Appointment to sign some consents with the RE's office's attorney
  • January 30th- Stims start
  • Feb 10th- Egg retrieval
  • Feb 15th- Embryo Transfer!!

I'm so anxious to start stims. It seems odd that I'd be excited to start getting poked with a needle multiple times a day, but I'm just ready to start everything. With Christmas and all the wedding festivities for my friend's wedding I was in this past Saturday, the past month has flown by! Now I have less than another month of waiting. I don't have much on my calendar for this month, but hopefully I can find some stuff to do to keep myself busy. I'm such an impatient person!!
